After months on end of trade speculation, the Arizona Cardinals have finally dealt disgruntled wide receiver Anquan Boldin to the Baltimore Ravens for a third and fourth-round draft pick.
In addition, the Cardinals also sent their fifth-round draft pick to the Ravens in a deal that was just one of many signaling major changes to the Arizona franchise.
Boldin has been unhappy at the team’s unwillingness to give him a big contract, but the trade to the Ravens instantly came with a four-year, $24 million deal.
Boldin said that he was excited all day when he received word that the two teams were in serious talks and wished that all of this had happened last year.
Without Boldin, the Cardinals will probably look to become a more run-oriented team. They will also make Steve Breaston their No. 2 receiver and move Early Doucet into the slot.

The Arizona Cardinals have released starting safety Antrell Rolle to avoid paying him his roster bonus.
The team remains interested in re-signing Rolle, but would want him back at a much cheaper rate.
Rarely does this work out between the two parties considering the player feels really slighted and taken advantage of.
The former first-round pick began his NFL career as a cornerback but later made the switch to safety.
He had 12 interceptions in 59 games as a starter, and teams will definitely be interested in his services.

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner announced at a press conference that he will retire from the NFL.
As soon as Warner announced the press conference, most knew that he was going to be hanging it up.
For a guy who was bagging groceries more than a decade ago, he carved out quite a career for himself.
He led the St. Louis Rams to a Super Bowl as a part of the “Greatest Show on Turf,” and he made it to the big game two other times, only to come up just short on both occasions.
With Warner gone, the Cardinals could try to make a trade or will simply turn over the reigns to Matt Leinart.

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner is expected to announce whether or not he’s returning for the 2010-2011 season on Friday, ESPN.com reports. But the early indications aren’t good for Cardinals fans: signs point to him retiring.
According to the story, Warner has been gathering his family so they can attend Friday’s news conference. And unlike Brett Favre, Warner doesn’t want to drag this process out or let it become a distraction. But another reason to believe he’ll hang ‘em up is due to the beating he took in the Cardinals’ divisional playoff loss to New Orleans. He was hit numerous times in the game, including a “decleater” he took after throwing an interception that was so punishing that it was painful to watch.
If he doesn’t return, the NFC West could look far different next year. Arizona certainly possesses the most talent in the division but without Warner at the helm of the offense, it could pave the way for the San Francisco 49ers to make a push for the top spot. Former first-round draft pick Matt Leinart will get a shot to silence his critics and prove he’s a capable starting quarterback, but he’s done little to quell those doubts to date.
Even as he nears ever-closer to 40, Warner gives the Cardinals the best chance to win big. He’s still an elite performer and it remains to be seen if the offense can be even half as productive with Leinart in charge.
Cardinals fans won’t sleep easy tonight.

The Arizona Cardinals simply turned the ball over too much in a 45-13 loss to the New Orleans Saints.
In addition, quarterback Kurt Warner was knocked out of the game at the end of the first half after trying to make a tackle following an interception.
Warner was crushed by a block from the blindside and left the field several minutes later. He did return to the game in the second half, only to sit back down when the game got out of hand.
Matt Leinart didn’t play all that badly in place of Warner, which was pretty much the only bright spot in the loss.
The defense obviously didn’t help matters much, either, as they failed to even slow down the Saints offense.

Arizona Cardinals defensive end Bertrand Berry has announced his retirement from the NFL after 12 season in the league.
He became an elite pass rusher in 2001, his first season with the Denver Broncos.
Berry’s best season was his first with the Cardinals in 2004 when he had 14.5 sacks and made the Pro Bowl.
He finished with 40 career sacks while with the Cardinals, which is good enough for sixth best in team history.
He was a third-round pick of the Indianapolis Colts in 1997, so he certainly did well for where he was drafted.
The Arizona Cardinals and New Orleans Saints are set to tango in what could be an offensive shootout for the ages.
The Cardinals were already involved in the highest scoring game in NFL playoff history last week against the Green Bay Packers.
Ironically, it was a defensive play that won them the game in overtime and allowed them to move on to the second round.
The Saints have an even more explosive offense than the Packers, but their defense has been riddled with injuries.

The Arizona Cardinals built a big lead only to need overtime to get past the Green Bay Packers, 51-45.
The Cardinals got off to a quick start and held more than a two touchdown lead for most of the game.
Green Bay rallied back thanks to a couple of defensive stops, an onside kick, and great play at the quarterback position.
However, it was that very same quarterback position that cost them the game in overtime, as Aaron Rodgers fumbled and the Cardinals ran it into the end zone for the game-winning score.
It was an unbelievable day for veteran quarterback Kurt Warner, who finished 29-33 for 365 yards and five touchdowns.
Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner has made it known to sources he is likely to retire when the team’s playoff run comes to an end.
The quarterback has battled a hip injury throughout the season after undergoing surgery in the offseason.
The 38-year old has told the media himself that reports that he will retire are premature.
He said he will take step back in the offseason like he always does and decide whether he wants to play another year.
It’s probably going to be the same situation on a year-to-year basis for Warner, who is still playing at such a high level.
The Arizona Cardinals will be without wide receiver Anquan Boldin when they take on the Green Bay Packers.
Boldin injured his knee and ankle in last week’s lost to the Packers in what was essentially a meaningless game.
That means that third wideout Steve Breaston will take on a much larger role in the team’s passing offense.
That will then move Early Doucet into the slot position, which is where Breaston usually operates.
If the Cardinals sneak out a win, they will have to hope that Boldin is ready to go the following week.
